FILS is an engineering school at POLITEHNICA Bucharest, where education is conducted entirely in three international languages: French, English, and German. Compared to other faculties in the university, FILS is a young faculty: it was established by transforming the Department of Engineering Sciences, created in 1990, into a faculty. In 2001, the Senate of the POLITEHNICA University of Bucharest unanimously approved the transformation of the Department of Engineering Sciences into a faculty, with the mission to:

  • Promote engineering education and deepen these studies, in line with labor market demands, with specialists who have broad training and multilingual skills, meeting the requirements of European integration;
  • Contribute to the promotion and stimulation of links between higher technical education in our country and similar institutions in developed countries, including through participation in European programs for educational and scientific cooperation;
  • Facilitate the schooling of foreign students and develop the mobility of students and teachers;
  • Contribute to the development of relationships between the university and enterprises, including within European and international consortia.

Today, FILS continues the mission it was founded with, being a renowned faculty at the national level, and very attractive for Erasmus and non-EU foreign students.
FILS is organized into two departments: the Department of Engineering in Foreign Languages (DILS) and the Department of Modern Language Communication (DCLM). FILS offers a diverse range of bachelor’s and master’s programs, framed in several fields, which are internationally appreciated, given the large number of foreign students who choose to study here. Three of the bachelor’s specializations were initiated in the last 3 years, proving the faculty’s continuous effort to update its educational offer. The faculty’s programs are sought after both nationally and internationally, and our students are young people with exceptional skills, eager to learn in a multicultural environment.
At FILS, there are the French and German Lectureships, where students benefit from the experience and dedication of native French and German-speaking lecturers, who have joined us thanks to long-standing collaborations with the French-speaking University Agency (AUF) and the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD).
We encourage students to get involved in international research projects, support them in accessing Erasmus scholarships, double degree programs, and other types of scholarships specific to engineering education in foreign languages. We have close collaborations with profile companies (IBM, Cegedim, ADP Software, Microsoft, Oracle, etc.), through which we annually organize workshops, competitions, and internships both in the country and abroad.
Dear students, be proud to have joined an elite academic community, that of the Faculty of Engineering in Foreign Languages at the National University of Science and Technology POLITEHNICA Bucharest! Surely, the faculty will be your passport to a successful career!
